What are the benefits of giving my child Scott’s Emulsion?

What is the difference between cod liver oil and fish oil?

Cod liver oil comes directly from the livers of codfish, while fish oil is taken from the flesh of oily fish such as mackerel and sardines.Cod liver oil has several advantages over fish oil because it is a source of Vitamins A and D.27 These help support immunity, growth and development.

Can I give my child both Scott's Emulsion and Scott's Vitamin C Pastilles?

You may give your child both Scott's Emulsion and Scott's Vitamin C Pastilles, as the products supply different beneficial nutrients.

How do Vitamin A and Vitamin D support immune function?

Vitamin A and Vitamin D are known to be important to support normal immune function.6,7,17

What are Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA?

Omega-3 fatty acids are a group of healthy fats we get from our food. They include Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA), EicosaPentaenoic Acid (EPA) and DocosaHexaenoic Acid (DHA), and are important for a number of functions in the body.26

DHA is the omega-3 fatty acid that helps your child’s development of healthy eyes and healthy brain development.3,4

Hence it is important that children get enough DHA during their childhood.26

How do I know if my child has enough Omega-3 fatty acid DHA?

The richest sources of DHA are oily cold-water fish and seafood,26 so your child could be lacking in DHA if they don’t eat much fish or seafood. It is recommended that at least 2-3 portions of fish (a cheque-book sized amount) are consumed per week to ensure adequate intake of DHA and EPA.

Similarly, if children are picky eaters or vegetarian, they might not be getting enough DHA from their diet alone.26,27

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the recommended daily amounts of Omega-3 (DHA + EPA) are as follows:28

* Note that if you are taking other sources of Vit A and Vit D (eg. From multivitamins), it is advised that you keep check of the recommended intake and do not exceed the recommended dose.

Is there a specific time of day when it is best to take the supplements?

There is no specific time of the day when it’s best to take our supplements, but it is easier to remember to take the supplement if it is part of a daily routine, for example: after breakfast each day.

My child loves the taste of Scott’s Vitamin C Pastilles. Is it dangerous if they eat more than the recommended amount indicated on the pack?

It is not advisable to exceed the recommended intake of supplements. Though, if your child does happen to eat more than the recommended amount it is not dangerous, as any unabsorbed vitamin C will be excreted in the urine. That said, it is important to ensure over-consumption of supplements is not routine.

Where does the Cod Liver Oil in Scott’s Emulsion come from?

We use pure, natural Cod Liver Oil, sourced from sustainably-fished codfish from the pristine, unpolluted waters around Iceland.

How long can my child take Scott's Emulsion for?

Scott’s Emulsion can be taken every day, right up to adulthood and beyond. Ensure that you follow the recommended dose indicated on the pack or according to your doctor’s recommendations.

Can my child with seafood allergies take Scott's Emulsion?

Scott’s Emulsion contains ingredients sourced from fish so avoid giving it to any child with seafood or fish allergies. Please refer to the indications and warning section on the label for more information and consult your doctor before giving your child the product.

Are Scott’s products halal?

Scott's Emulsion, Scott’s DHA Gummies and Scott’s Vitamin C are halal certified by JAKIM (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia).31
